Just because Christmas is over it doesn’t mean winter isn’t still in full force (at least for this New England native)! I’ve collaborated with middle school math teachers to bring you a round up of all our favorite middle school winter math activities. Whether you are teaching 7th grade, 8th grade, or Algebra 1, you are guaranteed to find the perfect winter math activity for your students!

Snowfall scatterplots

Take your standard scatter plot activity to the next level with this real world application! This activity is designed to engage your students while challenging them to think outside of the box.

This real world math application is perfect for group work and collaboration or can be used as a stand-alone formative assessment for your solving multi step equations unit!

What is the real world scenario?

New York City is known for picturesque streets during the winter. The data below gives the amount of snowfall beginning in November 2021 and ending in February 2022. Graph the data as a scatter plot on the coordinate plane.

Finding Slope Coloring Worksheet

With this winter coloring worksheet, your students will practice finding the slope of tables, graphs and ordered pairs. Once students find the correct answer, they can see what color to shade that number on the coloring picture.

In this winter math activity for middle school your students will determine missing angle measurements using complementary angles, supplementary angles, straight angles, and vertical angles.

Students will need to solve simple algebraic equations in some problems in order to solve for x, which is part of the missing angle measurement.  Students will love to find the answer to the winter themed riddle as they solve each question!

Comparing Slope in Proportional Relationships Self-Checking Digital Activity

Keep your students engaged as they find and compare the slope (as unit rate) of proportional relationships represented in graphs, tables, and equations in this no-prep self-checking digital activity made for use with Google Sheets.
